Adsense Optimization Tips

Using Image Ads

The decision on whether to use image ads for your website must solely depend on your web page design. If you feel that your website could do with some color, then go ahead and use image ads. Also as with all other tips, the best results depend on your unique site and must be arrived at with experimentation. Run with image ads for some days and check your earnings to see if there is any marked improvement. It could be that on some pages image ads do well while on other pages of the same site, text ads outperform. This can be identified if you use channels while you experiment.

Ad Placement

Ad placement is mostly decided based on your website design but if you are redesigning your website for Adsense optimization o have room to change positions, then this could be the single most important factor to improve your Adsense revenues.

It is common knowledge that ads placed at certain positions on the web page are more likely to be noticed by visitors than other spots. For example, an ad on the top right of the page (the classical banner ad spot) is invisible to the surfers of today - mainly because they expect to see an ad there. Based on studies, Google and others have come upon certain locations on a standard web page which are most visible. These are called 'hotspots'. If you place your ads on these locations, then you are more likely to have your visitors seeing your ads and clicking on them. The image below shows the hotspots with the dark orange areas being the most visible to light yellow being the least visible.

Also remember that ads 'above the fold' tend to perform better. 'Above the fold' means the upper half of the page. This seems quite natural considering that this is the part of the page that is seen immediately by the surfer.
