Alternatives To Adsense
Even though Adsense is among the best performing contextual CPC program, it is better that you have some alternatives in hand just in case you need them. It is well known that not all kinds of websites do well with Adsense. In such cases you may want to try out other alternatives to see if they fare better. Also, in situations where relevant ads are not available, Google serves public service ads (PSA). You may setup one of the other ad networks as a substitute whenever PSA ads are being delivered. You can do this from the Adsense control panel.
We have listed below a few of the alternatives to the Adsense ads. Most of these pay per click but there are also others that pay per impression (CPM) or sometimes pay per link.
Yahoo Publisher Network
The Yahoo! publisher network (YPN) is the chief contender as an alternative to Adsense. Currently, in beta phase, YPN only accepts websites in English owned by webmasters from the USA. According to the official YPN site, they plan to open up to webmasters from around the world in 2006.
Webmasters who have been able to sign up with YPN report good to extremely good performance. Being in beta, the ad targeting still needs some improvement but the payouts are extremely high. This may be due to the fact that advertisers are also from the US only. Once YPN is out of beta, it will be interesting to see how well this performs.
It is highly recommended that you join this program whenever you are eligible.
